Adding the protection you need in wet or buggy terrain, this Bug/Floor Insert lets you make the most of summer trips in the ultralight Front Range Tarp Shelter. It includes a durable bathtub floor and a full micromesh canopy for airflow and ventilation. Up top, its cone keeps the rainfly off the mesh to prevent drips from condensation. With room to comfortably sleep 4, this spacious tent body also works as a standalone shelter for small groups on warm-weather missions.
Our Verdict
MSR's Front Range Bug/Floor Insert adds a practical and protective layer to the Front Range set up. This mesh inner can be set up alone in good conditions but is primarily designed to work as an inner for the Front Range tarp tent. It pitches in the same way with a tall (1.42m/56inch) central pole set up and the four corners pegged out. The innovative top allows the pole to reach up and support the outer tarp but it leaves a gap that does a great job of separating the inner and outer to keep you dry.
The durable 30D bathtub floor works really well on wet ground while the 15D mesh keeps out the majority of bugs. Whether you're pitching your Front Range in wet conditions or in areas with lots of bugs this inner does a great job of protecting you.
