The combination of a tough, windproof PERTEX® QUANTUM outer and high-loft pile lining creates a system that’s warm, breathable, and highly weather resistant; even when working hard in cold, damp environments. The directional fabric design moves moisture away from the body, keeping you warm and comfortable during prolonged use.
Our Verdict
The Montane Extreme Jacket has a legendary reputation. So much so that Montane have re-released it having discontinued it for a few years and the fact that they have barely changed the design since it's first incarnation nearly 30 years ago says it all. Used by numerous Mountain professionals the Extreme jacket is built for harsh conditions.
The directional material pushes moisture away from the body whilst keeping you warm. The reinforced patches on the elbows have a hydrostatic head of 10,000mm and the outer material is now 100% recycled. The detachable hood is now held on with a zip which is far more secure than the old Velcro version. The fit has been updated since the older incarnation but is still designed to accommodate layers underneath. Although from personal use you don't need much especially when out walking.
When the weather is at it's worst putting the hood up and cinching in the toggles around the head gives the ultimate protection and although it is a heavy piece of kit it's design has stood the test of time. It's great to have it back in the range.

- Outer: Pertex Quantum. Robust plain weave using recycled nylon yarns, providing excellent wind resistance, A non-fluorocarbon water repellent finish.
- Reinforcement: Polardri Mini-Rip. A tough nylon 6.6 rip-stop woven combined with a super thin waterproof, windproof polyurethane membrane with 10,000mm hydrostatic head. This fabric is also Bluesign approved.
- Lining: Dryactiv 3000. Soft, warm and comfortable, single sided sherpa fleece providing exceptional warmth and moisture management
