The Dura 6.5R is the sleeping mat for adventures all year round - winter backpacking, alpine expeditions, or camping in sub-zero temperatures. It provides ideal protection against the cold ground, offers the best comfort, is abrasion-resistant, and can still be packed compactly.
With the innovative SYNMAT PLUS TECHNOLOGY™, the recycled, synthetic microfibre filling is combined with an additional layer of reflective foil. This maximizes thermal performance while keeping the mat light, quiet, and compact. All our backpacking mats feature Cradle Comfort™ for added comfort: the vertical outer air chambers are slightly raised for even better support on the mat.
The recycled and bluesign®-recognized outer material feels pleasantly soft on the skin while remaining robust. Thanks to the two flat valves, the mat can be inflated effortlessly and deflated just as quickly - robust, reliable, and intuitive to use. The Schnozzel pump bag included ensures fast, moisture-free inflation.
Our Verdict
The Exped Dura 6.5R LW Sleeping Mat offers a strong balance of warmth and durability, weighing 851g and featuring a 6.9 R-value. It sits firmly as a 4-season option, capable in all but the most extreme summit conditions.
At 9cm thick, it feels very supportive. The vertical baffles work well for side sleepers, while the oversized side baffles help keep you cradled through the night. The rectangular shape, combined with the extended 197cm length and 65cm width, makes it a better fit for taller hikers or those who prefer more space in camp.
The Schnozzel pump bag is very efficient, and the separate inflation and dump ports make setup and pack-down straightforward. The system feels reliable and easy to manage when packing away.
The heavier 75 D / 175 D polyester fabrics give it a noticeably more robust feel. It handles rougher ground well and feels less delicate than lighter mats, which is reassuring when campsite options are limited.
Overall, this is a dependable option that combines warmth, comfort, and durability for consistent performance on the trail.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures.
