Our Verdict
The Distance Carbon Z FKT Poles feel designed first and foremost for runners and hikers moving quickly through steep terrain. At 157g for the 120cm pair, they have an exceptionally low swing weight, and the Z-pole deployment is fast enough that stowing them mid-run feels realistic rather than awkward.
I found the magnetic glove system works well when pushing hard uphill, although the groove on top of the handle can irritate the hand on descents if you prefer resting the handle in your palm without using the glove. The fixed-length design keeps the poles light and stable, but it does limit flexibility for trekking pole shelters, so pitch height compatibility is worth checking beforehand.
Best suited to fast mountain travel rather than general backpacking.
