Built for speed, breathable where it counts, and impressively light for the coverage it offers.
Outdoor Research says:
The Deviator Wind Jacket features a hybrid-mapped construction that prioritizes weather protection at the front body, shoulder, and collar and breathability at the back and underarms, creating the perfect layer for trail running, mountain biking, or any other high-tempo outdoor activity.
Built with an ultralight wind-resistant and water-resistant 20D stretch woven fabric at the front body, shoulders, and collar with a highly breathable, perforated stretch plain weave at the back and underarms, the Deviator Wind Jacket ensures that you stay protected from wind and light rain while maintaining optimal ventilation and comfort. Movement-mirroring stretch delivers full range of motion, and zip chest and hand pockets keep keys, credit cards, phones, and gels nearby. Reflective logos enhance visibility in low-light conditions, and the jacket conveniently packs into its left-hand pocket, doubling as a stuff sack for easy portability.
Quick-drying, protective, and supremely breathable, the Deviator Wind Jacket is the ideal layer for fast-moving outdoor activities where body temperature regulation is a priority.
Our Verdict
The Deviator Wind Jacket strikes a precise balance between protection and ventilation. At 139g (Medium), it’s streamlined yet substantial enough to handle blustery ridgelines and fast climbs without overheating. The front, shoulders, and sleeves are wind-resistant with a water-shedding finish, while the perforated back and underarms keep airflow high during sustained effort.
The fit is close but unrestrictive, aided by generous stretch throughout. There’s room for a thin base layer underneath, though those with a broader chest may want to size up. The fabric feels soft next to the skin and dries quickly.
The pockets are well-placed, and the left-hand one doubles as a stuff sack. Durability feels solid for the weight, though the lower hem can shift slightly under a pack.
For runners, hikers, and riders who need lightweight coverage with all-day mobility, the Deviator refines what already worked and makes it even more breathable, versatile, and practical for high-tempo missions.
