A comfortable and well-insulated double mat designed for basecamps

The DeepSleep impresses in the family of 3D mats with its small pack size and weight. It is the perfect companion for base camp, the campsite, or the camper van. With a width of 104 cm (M) or 132 cm (LW+), the duo version is perfect for adventures for two or as an extra-large, luxurious single mat.
The special 3D construction creates the largest possible sleeping surface. The core of the DeepSleep is made of 7.5 cm thick foam, ensuring the best possible sleeping comfort. The surface is made of recycled 75 D polyester for a pleasant feel against the skin.
The DeepSleep is self-inflating. The EXPED Top Up Pump as an inflation aid and a repair patch is included. Inflation and deflation are made easier by the two flat valves. A large packsack is included for easy packing.
Our Verdict
The Exped DeepSleep Duo M Sleeping Mat is built around comfort and simplicity, weighing 3037g with an R-value of 9. It is firmly aimed at basecamp or car-camping.
At 7.5cm thick, the foam construction feels supportive and stable, and the 104cm width works well for two people, with less disturbance when your partner moves during the night.
The mat is self-inflating, which makes setup straightforward, with the included pump working well to top up firmness when needed. The valve system is easy to use, though packing it away takes a bit more time due to the foam core.

ASTM R-Value:
From 2020, there is a new industry standard for measuring the R-value (level of insulation) of sleeping mats – ASTM F3340-18. This new standard is the sleeping mat equivalent to the EN rating for sleeping bags.
You can now directly compare the R-value of mats rated using the ASTM F3340-18 with confidence that is a fair and accurate comparison between mats. In simple terms, the higher the R-value, the warmer the mat.
In general terms, an R-value below 2.0 is for summer use, 2.0 to 4.0 is for cooler 3 season use and 4.0+ is for winter temperatures.
