A minimalist design for cold-weather active insulation. It provides warmth while being highly breathable and focused on wicking moisture and regulating body temperature during exercise.
OMM says:
Superlight full base or midlayer using Primaloft ACTIVE 75g to reduce weight to a third that of conventional fleece products and give perfect air permeability. Re-enforced knee panels give added protection.
Our Verdict
OMM's Core Tights use Primaloft's Next insulating fabric, which is designed to add a layer of warmth for cold-weather exercise. The material is designed to be breathable, moisture-wicking, and regulate your body temperature as much as possible when running or hiking. It does an excellent job in this regard and is a great piece of gear for colder conditions. However, the fabric does not provide any wind protection, so you will still need a soft- or wind shell over it if there is a cold wind.
You will only get use out of these in the depths of winter, but when you need them, you will be very grateful for them. I have used insulating trousers before, and they can make you very sweaty, but these solve that problem. When combined with a rugged pair of over trousers, no weather will be able to stop you.
They are very comfortable and cosy, and they could easily be incorporated into a sleep system. In fact, as a dedicated pair of pyjamas, they will get a lot of use during the cooler months. They will keep you warm while allowing you to breathe.
