Our Verdict
After three months of daily and trail use, the ThruBottle has earned a regular spot in my pack and at my desk. At 92 g (1 L), it’s far sturdier than any repurposed bottle, with no dents or warping despite constant use. The construction feels robust yet light, and the 28 mm thread fits filters, such as the Sawyer Squeeze and Platypus Quickdraw Filter, securely. Flow resistance is a little higher than with softer bottles, but it’s consistent and easy to manage once you get used to the firmer squeeze.
The slim profile slips neatly into side pockets, and the small pull cord near the cap lets you attach it with a carabiner for extra security. I also really appreciate that it doesn’t retain flavours, even after electrolyte mixes, and that it has millilitre measurement lines, which lets me measure the exact amount of water for my freeze-dried meal.
My only caveat is the height. The tall form makes it easy to reach from a backpack pocket, but it doesn’t always fit beneath short taps, an occasional frustration when refilling at public sinks or pub loos on the trail.
Overall, the ThruBottle offers an excellent balance of weight, durability and design, providing a reusable solution that feels genuinely built for repeated miles and everyday reliability.
