Our Verdict
If you're looking for a lightweight jacket for your multi-day mountain adventures, the Rab Cirrus Ultra Insulated Hoody is well worth your attention. This jacket balances warmth, packability, and weather resistance, making it a reliable companion for those unpredictable British conditions.
The Cirrus Ultra uses PrimaLoft® ThermoPlume®+ insulation, which closely mimics down, providing impressive warmth without bulk. I was particularly impressed by the Thermo Ionic Lining Technology (TILT) in the torso, which boosts core warmth. The jacket kept me cosy even in damp conditions without the dreaded clamminess.
The 20D recycled Pertex® Quantum Pro outer fabric is environmentally friendly and admirably repels light rain and snow. The helmet-compatible hood was incredibly cosy, with its stiffened peak and internal adjustments, especially when the wind picked up. The jacket's thoughtful design extends to its storage options. The two hand-warming pockets sit nestled behind the down baffles, so they are a nice cosy place to warm your hands up, whilst the two chest pockets are easy to access and are an excellent place to stash additional winter layers like a hat, gloves or a buff.
Weighing just 540g for the medium size, the Cirrus Ultra packs neatly into its own pocket, making it easy to stow away when not in use.
