An ultralight base layer with plenty of use beyond the trail.
Patagonia says:
Our lightest and fastest drying baselayer for minimalist warmth management in cool conditions. It wicks and releases moisture in a flash, and feels silky next to skin. Keeps you warm in cool conditions. HeiQ® Mint odor control keeps things fresh. Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory.
Our Verdict
At 93g (Medium), the Patagonia Capilene Lightweight Crew is exceptionally light for a long-sleeved base layer. The thin recycled-polyester fabric feels smooth against the skin, dries quickly and regulates heat well without becoming clammy.
The close fit layers well, while the underarm gussets preserve movement and the low-bulk seams remain comfortable beneath a rucksack. I always like to see thumb loops on a base layer, which extend coverage without adding bulky cuffs.
It provides only modest insulation, but its quick drying time and understated appearance also make it a good pyjama top or clean town shirt on multi-day hikes, allowing one lightweight layer to cover several roles.
