This fleece has a very technical design, with 'mapped' construction matching different materials with your body's requirements in different areas. For improved stretch, breathability and freedom of movement, a Thermo Grid brushed back fleece material with 7% elastane is used across the hood, side and underarm panels, making the jacket well- suited to high-intensity adventures. Across the front and back around your core, and on top of the arms, is Polartec Thermal Pro Hi-Loft, delivering cosy warmth where most needed. On test, we found the jacket's construction struck a nice balance between warmth and breathability, and we didn't excessively overheat during steep ascents - but, in truth, it was near-impossible to accurately
analyse how much difference the complicated 'mapped' design made. Some hillwalkers may see it as a game changer worth paying extra for; others may see it as an over-complication, preferring instead to invest in a simpler (and far cheaper) single-material fleece. We found the fit relatively slim and figure-hugging, making the fleece better suited to use as a mid-layer in a layering system rather than as an outright outer. Features include
