MONTANE Dart Thermo Zip Neck

Posted by The Great Outdoors Magazine on Aug 18, 2022

The Dart Thermo is new from Montane this season. The fibre combination of nylon and spandex gives this fabric a denser feeling than polyester and a surprising degree of warmth given the low garment weight. It's close-fitting without being spray- on and has four-way stretch although less than I expected given 12% spandex (I could have done with slightly more on the forearms). The inner face feels brushed and is very comfortable next to skin, it's a layer I reached for when the weather was revolting and I needed a clothing-hug. It wicks sweat well but being nylon, is slower to dry than polyester or polypropylene. It is also slower to get smelly. Montane uses Polygiene to "prevent the growth of odour-causing bacteria at source': this is a fabric treatment using low concentrations of silver chloride. Construction is simple - front, back, full side panels - and high-quality with neat, flatlocked seams inside and out. The low-profile collar has a short zip protected by a chin guard; I like this arrangement, as the collar works well under layers, with the zip for variable airflow. Length is generous, so the top doesn't ride up under a rucksack and stays in place if it's tucked into trousers. A great cool weather choice for moderate levels of sweat, at a user-friendly price.
