Our Verdict
The Patagonia Black Hole Micro MLC is best seen as a smaller travel bag rather than a hiking pack. At 22 litres, it is built around under-seat carry-on travel, organisation and everyday practicality.
The recycled Black Hole fabric feels well-suited to airports, train travel, weekends away, and rough handling, with useful weather resistance. The main compartment has enough room for a change of clothes and shoes, while the mesh divider helps stop everything from spilling out when you open the bag.
I like the three carry options: backpack straps, a shoulder/cross-body strap, and briefcase-style carry. The laptop compartment is also well thought out for work travel, with space for documents and cables.

Features
- Built with recycled materials and a recycled TPU-film laminate; size meets the tighter under-seat carry-on requirements of most airline carriers
- Roomy main compartment is large enough for a change of clothes, including shoes, and has a mesh divider to keep things from spilling when you open the bag
- Dedicated space for tech storage that fits most 15in laptops, with room for documents and cords; laptop carrier zips open and lies flat for easy TSA compliance
- Three carrying configurations allow the bag to be used as a backpack, shoulder bag/cross-body bag or a briefcase
- Convert from a backpack to a shoulder bag/cross-body bag by unclipping and tucking away the padded shoulder straps, then pulling out the additional webbing strap and clipping it to the right shoulder-strap webbing
- External lash points accommodate even more gear and can be used for other carrying configurations; features a wide webbing loop on the back panel that can be used as a grab handle or slipped over rolling luggage
- Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory, which means the people who made this product earned a premium for their labor
