Our Verdict
The Distance Carbon FLZ poles from Black Diamond blend the weight savings of carbon with the flexibility of an adjustable design. At 182g per pole (125–140 cm), they’re light enough for long days and races, yet the FlickLock+ mechanism allows for quick and precise length tweaks when the gradient shifts. The foldable design deploys smoothly and stows down small enough to fit inside or outside a running vest or pack.
I’ve found the EVA grips comfortable even on warm days, and the breathable wrist straps are a thoughtful detail. They aren’t the most robust poles out there—carbon is always a trade-off—but these deliver for fast hiking or running on technical terrain where packability and speed matter more than brute force.
