The Baltoro has all the freedom of movement and aesthetics of a narrow baffle down jacket, but with none of the disadvantages. With a heat reflective internal fabric layer and a dual layer offset design the Baltoro Jacket has impressive warmth, windproofness and weather protection.
Our Verdict
The Baltoro Down Jacket combines 700-fill-power duck down with a dual-layer offset-baffle construction that eliminates cold spots and improves thermal efficiency. At 461 g (Medium), it feels substantial without restricting movement, and the DRILITE Loft 20D shell is fully windproof, with a durable water-repellent finish that sheds light precipitation. The reflective internal lining noticeably improves perceived warmth in cold, still conditions.
Fit is accurate, with space layers beneath. The hood adjusts at the rear with a hook-and-loop tab to reduce volume, and a drawcord around the face that can be cinched while the jacket is zipped up. The hem cinches easily with a draw cord, and the elasticated cuff closure works like a soft draft collar, sealing out wind without compressing gloves, a very nice touch from ME. Inside, one large dump pocket is ideal for gloves or maps; I always look for these in any winter insulation piece.
Warmth and weather resistance are impressive for the weight, and the build quality is what you would expect from ME for regular mountain use. The Baltoro is best suited for cold, dry conditions where dependable warmth, balanced mobility, and understated technical detailing matter most.
