Our Verdict
The BD Alpenglow is designed to cover the full range of climbing experiences from hot to cold conditions where you will be building up a sweat and need to have something that keeps you cool and prevents condensation from building up.
As a climber it is always a struggle to find a base layer that keeps you cool without making you smell, and just generally feel a bit uncomfortable when you are pushing hard and building up a sweat. However the BD.cool in-fibre manages to keep the temperature down without either restricting movement which is obviously of key importance in any climbing or active sport, as well as creating any discomfort from the build-up of wicked moisture.
I definitely found the looser fit of this more comfortable than a traditional tight fitting base layer and was something that I could wear all day without really noticing I was wearing it.
The hooded version offers more protection with the under helmet hood to keep out unwated UV if you are wearing a vented helmet or simply provides a bit more comfort under the helmet.
