Not essential, but noticeably more comfortable

Our Verdict
The Air Seat seems aimed at people who are happy to carry a little extra weight in exchange for far better comfort when you stop. The inflatable construction provides noticeably more cushioning than a closed-cell foam sit pad, and the internal baffles prevent it from feeling overly unstable or balloon-like when inflated properly. I also like how small it packs once deflated. Unlike foam sit pads, though, this one does need a bit of care around sharp rocks, thorns and rough ground as punctures remain the obvious trade-off.
