Hyperlite Mountain Gear says:
Loaded with 1000-fill power down and sewn into a durable 7d micro ripstop nylon exterior shell, the 40-Degree Quilt is warm, comfortable, incredibly light, and highly packable.
One of our two quilt offerings, the 40-Degree Quilt is the perfect ultralight backpacking quilt for milder in-season temperatures.
Our Verdict
Hyperlite Mountain Gear’s 40-Degree Quilt shares the same premium build as its colder-rated sibling, but it’s made for mild summer nights. Weighing just 471g in the regular size and filled with 251g of 1000-fill down, it offers an impressively compact sleep system without cutting corners on quality. The 7D nylon shell is whisper-thin, though it does need some care. Sewn-through baffles keep things minimal and are perfectly suited to a summer bag.
The footbox is stitched shut, which cuts draughts effectively, and the familiar clip-and-strap system attaches neatly to your mat. Setup is quick and straightforward, and the neck drawcord seals without fuss. There’s just enough room across the shoulders for a relaxed sleep without feeling restricted. One thing that’s a little disappointing is that the quilt doesn’t come with a dedicated stuff sack, which feels like an oversight.
I’d be happy using it to 4°C. It would be good for low-elevation summer trails or hut-to-hut fastpacking where you want the lightest possible pack without sacrificing a good night’s sleep.
