Our Verdict
At 52g (Medium), the Montbell 2026 Stretch Short Gaiters are a light, close-fitting option for keeping grit, stones and light mud out of trail shoes. The stretch nylon fabric is the main strength, giving a neat fit around the ankle and shoe without the bulk of taller gaiters. That makes them well-suited to fast walking, running and backpacking in low-cut or mid-cut footwear.
They are not waterproof gaiters, and the short height means they will not protect your lower legs in boggy or very wet ground.
