Our Verdict
The L/S Capilene Cool Trail Shirt feels closer to a comfortable everyday top than a traditional synthetic baselayer, and I think that is its biggest strength. The updated polyester-and-TENCEL blend feels soft against the skin and drapes naturally, while still drying quickly enough for regular hiking use. At 159g (Medium), it remains light despite the added sleeve coverage.
The smooth seams, stretch fabric and tag-free neck help it sit comfortably under pack straps, while the long sleeves add useful protection from sun, wind and cooler temperatures. For hiking, travel and everyday wear, I think it strikes a convincing balance between comfort, coverage and technical performance.
