Part of our Extreme Alpine sleeping bag range, the Xeros is an ultra-light winter bag designed for hard multi-day alpine expedition use where protection is essential, but every gram counts.
With 605g of exceptionally high-quality minimum 800-fill power goose down and an extremely breathable and water-resistant DRILITE® LOFT 10 denier outer fabric, the Xeros thrives in the most challenging alpine environments and can easily cope with snow melt and condensation. For added protection, the DRILITE® fabric extends into the bag's hood, around the collar and in the foot box—all areas prone to dampness.
Trapezoid baffles optimally balance weight and pack size throughout the bag against warmth and down control. A complex seven-baffle system concentrates down in the hood and collar for optimum warmth and protection over long-term use. In contrast, a six-baffle system focuses warmth around your feet in the anatomically shaped foot box. A full-length Gemini™ entry zip baffle reduces heat loss in this vulnerable area, and the low-profile magnetic Lode Lock™ closure and collar drawcords are easy to use in the dark or difficult conditions.
Our extreme alpine bags have a tapered Alpine fit that can accommodate additional down layers and boots as necessary and allow seated or fetal-position sleeping on restricted bivy spots.
With a Good Night’s Sleep Temperature of -14oC and weighing just 1010g, the Xeros is an extremely warm bag for its weight. This rating, determined through lab work, countless field trials, and exhaustive expedition testing, indicates the minimum temperature an experienced user will be comfortable in this bag in real-life situations.
Our Verdict
Mountain Equipment’s Xeros Down Sleeping Bag is a finely engineered option for winter climbing and summit camps. At around 1010g (Regular), it delivers reliable warmth down to -12°C using 800-fill European goose down and a DRILITE Loft 10D shell that balances water resistance with good breathability.
The fit is close and contoured, designed to minimise dead air and maximise loft. Mountain Equipment’s EXL system, elasticated stitching built into the lining, draws the bag slightly inwards around the body, helping the down stay close to the sleeper and improving thermal efficiency without restricting movement.
The hood and collar adjust precisely, sealing in warmth without feeling bulky, and the full-length zip baffle limits heat loss. Trapezoid baffles keep down in place and prevent cold spots. The lightweight shell feels refined and well-stitched, though it benefits from careful handling. For committed mountaineers or minimalist winter travellers, the Xeros combines efficient warmth, compact storage and thoughtful detailing in a focused, high-performance package.
