This is an incredibly minimalistic 3L waterproof shell and is one of the lightest jackets we have on offer. It’s been fine-tuned, gram per gram, so you have a shell you can rely on when you need it, but you aren’t carrying unnecessary weight you don’t need.

Our Verdict
Berghaus call this an emergency shell; if you are up high and not expecting bad weather, this will protect you should the weather turn. The MTN Guide Hyper LT Jacket packs down incredibly small, and it can live in your pack year-round, and you would never notice it.
The cuffs and hem are both elasticated, there are no Velcro straps or draw cords on the jacket that fits as is and cannot be adjusted, and the hood doesn’t even have any adjustments. This all saves weight, and ensures a minimal amount of wind and water will enter the jacket.
The Guide Hyper LT has one small internal pocket with a zip fastening to keep items like a car key safe, but no other pocket.
It’s not going to be your day-in and day-out waterproof for general hill walking; it’s not built for that, it will keep you dry, but as you can’t adjust the jacket, overheating could be an issue.
