Purpose-built for fast-moving days, the UltraFire 5 Vest Pack strikes a balance between stripped-down weight and enough storage to keep you covered beyond the basics.
OMM says:
UltraFire features the same carry and accessible 7 pockets as the TrailFire and adds a roll-top pocket on the back. This addition prepares the runner to keep themselves safe with less accessed emergency kit such as additional dry layers, food and first aid.
Additional sleeve for bladder
Our Verdict
At 225g (size M), the UltraFire 5 feels secure without being restrictive. The harness rides close with no bounce, and the breathable mesh keeps things cool even when fully loaded. It carries two 500ml flasks up front and has enough extra pocket space to store snacks, gloves, or a small waterproof item without overstuffing. The addition of the roll-top rear pocket is a proper upgrade — ideal for stashing an extra layer or emergency kit that you won’t need to reach for in a hurry.
There’s a sleeve for a bladder if that’s your preference, and the vest handles weight well even when close to full capacity. My only real note is that the front bottle pockets suit shorter flasks better — taller ones can ride a bit high and rub if you’re not careful.
