The Ultra 0°C (32°F) is a feather-light, compact summer sleeping bag insulated with the finest, RDS-certified, 850 cu. in. fill power goose down. It is aimed at demanding users who do not want to do without a comfortable, fully equipped sleeping bag even in warmer sleeping conditions.
The all-round, H-shaped down chambers allow the down to be "shaken upwards" if necessary – Exped's downshift function. This allows the heat distribution to be optimized in just a few steps and adapted to the individual's metabolism, the sleeping mat used, and the outside temperature. Its passive heat collar nestles around the neck like a scarf and ensures a cozy, warm sleeping atmosphere. In addition, like its warmer colleagues, the Ultra 0° has an elaborately designed, comfortable triangle foot box, and its zipper cover effectively prevents heat loss in this critical area.
Our Verdict
Even in the height of summer, it’s a good idea to take a bag that can cope if the temperature seriously drops; after all, if you are sleeping at elevation, the temperature can be much cooler up in the hills than it is at ground level, the Ultra 0° M Down Sleeping Bag ticks all my boxes for a 3-season bag. The bag uses high-quality down and ultra-light ripstop nylon; these high-quality materials are how the bag can provide such high levels of warmth at such a low weight.
The bag’s loft is impressive; it feels luxurious; it’s incredibly cosy being swaddled in all that down especially listening to the rain fall on the fly sheet. The down is held with box-shaped baffles, effectively eliminating cold spots. The bag has a generous foot box, so your feet can move about and do not feel constricted, but in warm weather, the zip extends all the way to the foot box so that you can open the bag up almost like a quilt. It’s an incredibly versatile bag that, in conjunction with a good mat, will easily cope with all 3 seasons use.
