Mid-cut, approach shoe designed for hikers and backpackers with heavy loads. Secure and protective, TX5 GTX is waterproof and breathable thanks to the use of the Gore-Tex Extended Comfort membrane and extremely comfortable thanks to the soft Nubuck leather uppers enriched with the all-round protective rubber, abrasion resistant rand and toe cap. The high cuff protects against stones and mud while the 3D Flex System allows for maximum precision on holds and freedom of movement in complete safety, while the underfoot stabilizer makes the shoe ideal for extended use. The outsole uses Vibram MegaGrip compound with differentiated lugs and Impact Brake System for enhanced shock absorption and hold on all types of terrain. This shoe is the ideal choice for both hikers and general mountain enthusiasts.
Our Verdict
The perfect mountain boot for everything in the hills, whether for climbing, scrambling, backpacking or just hillwalking this is a brilliant boot. Made from nylon and Nubuck leather, which means you will need to treat the boots to get the most out of them and ensure the longevity of the boot. Wrapping around the leather is a protective rubber rand and toe cap, this provides protection but also some grip for scrambling. A Gore-text membrane lining around the boot and gusseted tongue provide complete waterproofing. The mid soul is strong and supportive, with a good degree of flex towards the toe end, giving you some adaptability on the trail, while still being strong enough for the scrambles and climbing sections of your hike. The sole of the boot is Vibram megaGrip, which as the name suggests gives you fantastic traction on all terrains even when wet. Differentiated lugs provide good traction on ascents and a sure grip on the descents, the lugs also shed mud well. The ankle is supported very well with this boot, thanks to the “3D Flex system” that gives you a good amount of freedom of movement, whilst still keeping the foot locked into the boot.
I generally take a size 9 to 9 and a half but found the 10 actually fitted me the best. The toe box is roomy so your feet can spread naturally. As said above the ankle is supported very well thanks to the flex system, but this also locks the heel of the foot into the footbed so you won’t be getting extra movement, which results in friction and potentially blisters.
