The pots are made of hard-anodized aluminum which conducts heat well. The slightly thicker bottom compared to the sides of the pots contribute to a more even temperature over the entire pot and minimizes the risk of your food burning. The base also has a spiral pattern to ensure optimum heat transfer and grip on the stove pot support.
The included frying pan, also made of hard-anodized aluminum with a ceramic non-stick coating doubles as a lid for the 1-litre pot. The 0.6-litre pot comes with a plastic lid, which also works as a strainer. Three handles are included, so that both pots and pan can be used at the same time. One of the handles locks the set in packed position.
Our Verdict
When cooking multi-course backcountry meals, the Primus Trek Pot Set provides the versatility to get creative. The hard-anodized aluminium 1L pot and 0.6L pot are joined by a nonstick frying pan/lid that allows you to fry in addition to boiling and simmering. The ceramic coating makes for easy cleanup, while the pots' spiral-patterned bases maximise heat transfer efficiency.
At just 385g for the whole set, the Trek pots are lightweight enough for the weight-conscious backpacker. The included mesh stuff sack allows you to pack the pots neatly nested together, and the removable handles let you carry both at once over a campfire. While not quite as compact as an all-in-one pot/mug, the modularity means you can cook multiple dishes simultaneously (if you have 2 stoves).
The smaller 0.6L pot has a handy lid that doubles as a filter, while the frying pan functions as a lid for the 1L pot when not in use. The hard-anodized aluminium construction makes the Trek Pot Set remarkably durable for ultralight weight.
I like this setup, as you can bring what you need and leave the rest at home. So, if you are just heading to the hills for a night with a dehydrated meal, the 0.6l pot will suffice, but you can be more adventurous with your cooking on other trips. Do not expect to knock up a full fry-up in the frying pan; a ration of bacon and an egg will fit, but it is small.
