MSR's Trailshot Microfilter is all about ease of use and convenience, it fits easily into a side pocket on a rucksack and it can be deployed instantly - simply dip the pre-filter end of the tube into the water, remove the cap on the other end and start pumping with one hand. Its easy and takes just a few minutes to filter a litre. When it needs backflushing simply remove the tube and give it a shake.

The filter in the Trailshot has a lifespan of around 20,000l, dependent on the condition of the water you are filtering. Dirtier water will, of course, shorten the lifespan of the filter. Replacement filters can be found here.
