Our Verdict
Cold, wet feet can ruin a hike, but the right socks make all the difference. The DexShell Thermlite Socks promise warmth, breathability, and waterproof protection in a lightweight package—and they deliver.
At 66g for a medium pair, these are far from bulky, but they have a slightly thicker feel than standard hiking socks. This is the trade-off for their three-layer construction, which sandwiches a waterproof Porelle membrane between a soft Merino wool lining and a durable outer. They fit well and offer a decent balance of flexibility and support, though if your boots are already snug, you might need to adjust your sizing.
For those stubborn enough to wear trail runners all winter (myself included), these socks are a game changer. Waterproofing is impressive, keeping feet dry even when splashing through icy puddles or slogging through slushy trails. As with all waterproof socks, water can creep in from the top if you’re not careful, but they hold up remarkably well, especially when paired with gaiters. Breathability is solid, and while they can feel a touch warm in milder temperatures, they hit the sweet spot for cold, wet conditions
