A dependable, packable option for ultralight soloists who like to plan for the unexpected.
Terra Nova says
A waterproof sleeping bag cover/bivi bag designed as an essential piece of survival equipment for the great outdoors.
This bivi is great value and can be used as a normal bivi bag or in conjunction with a Tarp. You can simply keep it in your pack every time you go out, in case of emergency.
Our Verdict
Compact, waterproof and no-fuss, the Survival Bivi is a practical backup shelter for fast-and-light missions.
Weighing 296g (excluding stuff sack), this is a straightforward bivi bag made from Terra Nova’s breathable TN Dusk fabric, rated to 10,000mm for waterproofing. It’s designed to slip over your sleeping bag in emergencies, but would also be good for minimal tarp setups or a kit list where weight and volume are at a premium. The drawcord closure at the hood is simple but effective, and it packs down small enough to forget about until needed.
Ventilation is always a challenge with fully enclosed bivis, and while the breathability rating here is decent, managing condensation will still require care (I would always opt for a synthetic bag when bivying), especially in humid conditions. For taller users, it’s worth noting that at 215cm long, it’s not especially roomy once you’re inside with a sleeping bag and mat.
