UOG TOP PICK – For Spacious, Sustainable Comfort on the Trail: With a roomy interior, stable design, and an eco-friendly triple ripstop flysheet, the Solar Horizon 2 strikes a balance between packability and livability for backpackers who want reliable shelter without feeling cramped.
Terra Nova says
The Solar Horizon 2 is the ideal tent for backpackers and long-distance trekkers who are looking for the optimal balance of space, weight-saving, and durability. New for 2025, it features an inner pitch-first design, allowing for greater flexibility in different conditions. With a packed weight of just 1.9 kg, it’s light enough for fast-paced adventures but offers impressive interior space, with 224 cm length and 126 cm width, providing a comfortable sleeping area for two people. Constructed from our new TriPlex™ triple ripstop flysheet fabric, the Solar Horizon 2 is engineered for stability in challenging weather, with the option to add trekking poles for extra reinforcement. The PFC-free, solution-dyed and recycled fabrics not only improve eco-credentials but also enhance durability and UV resistance.
Our Verdict
Spacious, stable, and thoughtfully made, the Solar Horizon 2 offers reliable shelter for those who want room to breathe without carrying too much bulk.
At 1,712g, it’s not the lightest in Terra Nova’s lineup, but it makes good use of the weight. The generous inner comfortably fits two standard mats and feels noticeably roomier than some alternatives in this category. Ventilation is good thanks to the twin side doors and fly hoods, and the new triple ripstop, PFC-free flysheet holds its shape well in wind. It’s also fully recycled and solution dyed, which brings welcome environmental credentials.
The inner-first pitch can be less ideal in poor weather, but it’s straightforward to set up and well suited to settled, dry camps. I like that you can add trekking poles for extra stability. Inside, it’s dark—great if you want to sleep in—but it could feel a little enclosed on long winter nights.
