Our Verdict
If you are looking for a durable and warm insulated jacket that will cope with the most demanding conditions from everything to winter climbing to hikes in colder conditions, then the Mountain Equipment Shelterstone is that jacket.
The outer material of the Shelterstone is a DRILITE® LOFT 40 denier fabric that will help you cope with mountain terrain whether winter climbing through gullies or scrambling on a cooler day, with PFC-Free DWR; that is totally windproof and highly water resistant.
Mountain Equipment are using 100% recycled POLARLOFT® insulation to create a very warm jacket that will keep you warm in even the coldest Scottish conditions. Other features are a helmet compatible hood which is easily adjustable via a drawcord in the back, three large pockets on the front of the jacket, a large mesh pocket on the inside and Velcro adjustable cuffs to get a good seal around a pair of gloves, it also comes with a stuff sack for easy storage.
in terms of fit this is a technical fit, but has plenty of room for layers underneath and would make a good outer-layer because of its durability, but it is pretty easy to get a shell over becasue of the fit.
Overall all this jacket lives up to Mountain Equipment's legacy for tough and durable gear that performs to the top standard, and this is definitely the go to jacket to keep you warm on any winter adventure.
