Unique pegs with features that provide immense holding strength. The combination of 120mm length, 6g weight and overall strength is top class.
SwissPiranha says
Engineered in Switzerland and made of high-performance PiranhaNT, these tent stakes from SwissPiranha offer many serious advantages compared to conventional pegs: ultra-lightweight, shock-resistant, and super-safe.
The pointed shape allows easy driving into the ground, while the x-beam profile shaft with rugged saw teeth penetrates and holds in a wide range of soil conditions. The flat head maximizes strength and holding power in all conditions by compressing the soil underneath. In addition, its flat and soft-edged design limits fall and the risk of serious injuries. Notches inside the head can be used for attaching the guy lines in different ways and ensure best anchoring – even in heavy wind. SwissPiranha stakes do not twist and can be driven straight into the ground by using a foot, a hammer, back of an axe or a stone. They are no sharp edges that could damage the tent fabric.
Environmentalists can lie back and relax: Production and recycling of SwissPiranha tent pegs require at least 13 times less energy than aluminium stakes. In addition, a bent SwissPiranha peg can be easily returned to its original shape by adding it to the oven for 5 minutes at 160°C. Old pegs can be recycled. Cleaning is quite easy as they can even be cleaned in the dishwasher. In any case, SwissPiranha pegs are great lightweight, all-purpose tent stakes.
Our Verdict
SwissPiranha's RT120 Tent Pegs have a unique design that provides immense holding power from a lightweight, plastic package. The plastic used to make these pegs is very hard and strong, the cross-shaped structure makes them very stiff and resistant to bending, Swiss Piranha describe them as "Unbreakable" but the jury's out on that.
Serrated teeth at the end of the peg will provide extra grip in medium-soft ground and the next morning you might find these difficult to pull out if you've knocked them right the way in. Swiss Piranha do a purpose-built peg puller for just this issue. The tops of the pegs are nice and wide and this will ensure your guy or pegging point won't jump over the top of the peg during the night.
