A featherweight wind shell that balances airflow and protection with impressive precision.
Rab says:
When you’re traversing exposed ridgelines and winds buffet the summit, this protective windbreaker is an essential item on your mountain running kit list. Lightweight, packable, and highly wind-resistant, it deflects strong gusts to keep you warm and comfortable, with a full zip to provide ventilation when the incline steepens.
Our Verdict
The Rab Windveil Jacket is a minimalist wind layer with smart design touches that make it feel more capable than the weight suggests. At 97g (UK12), it’s light enough for long days on foot but still functional in changeable conditions. The Pertex Quantum Air fabric lets air move through just enough to stop you from stewing while still taking the edge off exposed ridgelines. The side panels have a moderate stretch that facilitates movement.
The full-length front zip includes a press stud at the collar, so it stays put if you're venting on the move. The cuffs are extended with thumb loops and sit nicely over gloves or bare hands. The Windfall only has one chest pocket, suitable for gels or keys, and doubles as a stuff sack.
