Vargo's pocket cleats are an accomplished device designed for crossing extended patches of ice on mountain trails. Easy to fit and use.
Vargo says:
Go faster and farther over icy terrain with the Pocket Cleats™ VTRAC. The unique upward-angled design of the VTRAC grips the bottom of your shoe resulting in less sagging and reduces the hazard of tripping. Made of high-grade Ti 6Al-4V titanium, the VTRAC are incredibly strong yet super lightweight. Their one-size-fits-all design works perfectly with trail running and light hiking shoes.
Our Verdict
Vargo' Have been making Titanium traction devices for years, the Pocket Cleats - VTRAC are the latest incarnation. They are really easy to deploy and should stay in place, which was a problem with some earlier versions. While I wouldn't take these to Scotland in winter they are ideal for occasional use such as backpacking in the Lake District and coming upon an extended patch of ice which would be treacherous otherwise - I can talk about this scenario because I've lived it - its amazing how a big patch of ice can slow you down, or ruin your day if you're on a steep descent.
