Our Verdict
At 347g (Medium), the R1 Air Full-Zip Hoody is a lightweight fleece that prioritises ventilation and moisture control during high-output activity. The R1 Air fabric uses a zigzag-knit pattern with hollow-core polyester yarns, which enhances airflow and moisture transfer while keeping weight low. Unlike traditional grid fleece, it feels lofted yet airier, drying faster and breathing better during sustained aerobic effort. The updated cut improves freedom through the arms and torso, though those with a broader build may still prefer to size up. The hood fits neatly under a helmet, and the full-length zip allows quick venting without disrupting layers. Pockets are low-profile and sit flat under a harness or pack. The fabric is soft but prone to pilling in contact areas over time, especially under straps. As a technical mid-layer for cool, dry days with constant movement, it performs reliably and layers cleanly across a wide range of activities.
