Our Verdict
The latest Outdoor Research Crocodile Gaiters version trims the bulk without losing the protection that made them a staple for cold, wet, or abrasive conditions. The slimmer profile hugs my boots better than older models, and the new ePE GORE-TEX fabric breathes more effectively on longer climbs. I appreciate the reinforced lower panels—Cordura outside, PU-lined packcloth inside—which easily shrug off crampon scrapes and brush. The replaceable TPU instep strap is a quiet but welcome upgrade for multi-day trips where things can fail. I was genuinely impressed with the overall build quality—every seam, panel, and closure feels robust.
I do wish the Velcro held its bite longer in muddy conditions, but overall, these feel like the most refined version of a classic.
