Mutant is a helmet made of EPP, with an ABS reinforcement at the top. This combination of technologies allows a low weight with good all-round protection (on the top and sides) and ventilation nonetheless. It features an innovative design with a symmetric hexagon-covered top and a different pattern left to right.
Minimal adjustment system to reduce weight and allow compact storage. The Mutant comes in three sizes to cover a wide range from 48 to 62.
Our Verdict
The distinctive look and design of the Mutant might make you think of Kryton from Red Dwarf (but not as much as the Grivel Stealth) however it is a great value light and comfortable helmet. The vented design allows ample airflow whilst the reinforced crown offers extra protection where you're most likely to need it. There is a little padding on the inside to add further comfort and although the strap adjustments look complicated from the outset it is very easy to make it nice and snug. It does come in 3 sizes though so the adjustments are minimal and proper head circumference measurements should be used to determine the correct size.
There are clips to secure a headtorch at the front and back making this perfectly suited for night time summit pushes or early morning cragging. This is a great helmet that could be used in a multiple of activities and hot and cold environments with good protection without adding much weight to your day.
