Mont Adventure Equipment is an Australian company known for making high-performance gear for demanding alpine conditions, with a focus on low weight, precise design, and reliable materials. The Lightspeed 3L Jacket is a clear example of that design philosophy.
At 171g (Medium), the Lightspeed is a true minimalist shell that offers complete waterproof protection without compromising breathability. The Hydronaute Ultra 3-layer fabric delivers a hydrostatic head of 20,000mm and breathability rated at 48,000g/m²/24 h, which is impressive for a shell this light. It performs well in sustained wet weather while remaining comfortable during high-output activities like fast hiking or mountain running. The cut is streamlined but leaves enough room for a base and mid-layer, and the hip-length hem provides unrestricted movement.
Seam construction is clean and precise, with hydrophobic thread and a laminated flap backing the AquaGuard zip. The hood is adjustable and shaped well for staying in place without excess bulk. A single external chest pocket is the only storage, and there's no integrated stuff sack or internal pouch, which is consistent with its stripped-back intent, but still missed.
