Hyperlite’s Junction 55 evolves with tougher fabric and more refined comfort. A strong update to a proven ultralight workhorse.
Hyperlite Mountain Gear says:
The Junction, like the Windrider and Southwest, represents our vision of a versatile, adaptable, and capable tool for nearly any adventure. Since its introduction over seven years ago, countless backpackers have seen and done it all with theirs. The Junction’s main pack body is built with a new, fully woven 200-denier fabric that offers more durability than ever before with the same signature lightweight and 100% waterproof qualities that have made Dyneema our primary material choice from the beginning. With two solid-fabric side exterior pockets that offer added protection for whatever’s inside and a center mesh pocket for visibility and drying wet gear, the Junction is a comfortable pack that delivers premium performance wherever you’re headed.
Our Verdict
The most significant change is the shift to 200D Woven Dyneema, which is markedly more abrasion-resistant than the older hybrid composites. The feel is smoother, quieter in use, and less crinkly, while still offering the same weather resistance. At 884g (Medium), the slight weight gain is minor compared with the durability benefits.
Carrying comfort has seen welcome adjustments. Redesigned shoulder straps give a cleaner fit and better distribution across the upper torso. The hip belt features a supportive dual-density foam and functional zip pockets.
Storage remains consistent with the Junction’s established layout: a large 55L main compartment, solid side pockets, and a central mesh panel for quick-access or damp gear. The deeper side pockets now make it easier to reach bottles on the move. The dual aluminium stays and roll-top closure continue to provide dependable structure and load transfer without unnecessary bulk.
For those who valued the balance of space, weight, and resilience in the earlier model, the updated Junction 55 delivers the same performance with meaningful improvements in durability and comfort.
