Our Verdict
At 309 g (Medium), these insulated trousers combine a lightweight ripstop nylon shell with Primaloft Gold Active Vent insulation and Montane’s APT lining to maintain warmth while releasing excess heat during exertion. The articulated fit and four-way stretch give excellent mobility, while the abrasion-resistant outer stands up well to alpine use.
Full-length side zips make venting and layering straightforward, and the waistband sits comfortably under a harness or pack belt. They perform best in cold, dry conditions, with breathability and freedom of movement setting them apart from bulkier insulated trousers. They also work as a good pair of camp trousers in the winter, I pair them with a Marino set of tights. In prolonged wet snow or rain, a waterproof shell remains advisable, but for mixed, fast-moving winter missions, these are a dependable and well-engineered choice.
