Our Verdict
At 40g, the Silva 3E is light, durable, and straightforward, with enough detail to navigate confidently without overwhelming you with extra features. The needle settles quickly and reliably, and the baseplate has the essential scales for map work. I’ve found the magnifier helpful for fine detail, and the luminous markings do the job in low light—especially useful in the shoulder seasons.
