The Kebab Stew from Real Turmat is another unique freeze dried meal option with a high calorie count of 705kcal and a low carry weight of 180 grams. This is part of their field meal range which has a good nutritional balance of fats (28 grams), carbs (85 grams), and protein (24 grams). It is also gluten free!
Our Verdict
First of all we have to mention how much we admire the large variety of options
Real Turmat have to offer with the kebab stew sparking interest at meal time. The packaging has easy to follow instructions, although we did give the meal a few extra mins to re-hydrate due to preparation in winter conditions. We would say its much more of a thick curry rather than what we would regard in the UK as a stew. The sauce is rich with tomato, spices are well balanced with the garlic flavour coming through nicely and just a touch of chilli warmth. Packed into this meal is a ton of the chicken kebab strips and veg which we thought made for a great texture and tasted fantastic. The rice is a nice accompaniment to soak up all the juices without taking over and making the dish too heavy. After a big winters day at Ben Alder this was a welcome meal option after a late return to camp. We were a big fan of Real Turmat’s cod in curry sauce but for us the kebab stew just slightly tops it, and believe this to be a good all year-round option.
