Rush Trek LT GTX

Weight: Men's Rush Trek LT GTX - 509g (per UK8 shoe) Women's Rush Trek LT GTX - 472g (per UK6 shoe)

The Rush Trek LT GTX is a lightweight ripstop fabric version of the ever popular Rush GTX and has been designed for short or daily hikes. It's a comfortable boot with technologies that help reduce foot fatigue during activity. The right mix of comfort, stability and lightness.

Features

- IKS (Interactive Kinetic System) technology reinvents the principles of comfort and cushioning.
- Lightweight and breathable for summer trekkings
- Hiking beyond the ordinary

Our Verdict
The Rush TRK LT GTX are solid all-rounders. They are great for low-level hikes but excel over rocky, uneven mountain climbs. The boot's upper is mainly constructed from a hard-wearing ripstop, but the lower of the boot is protected by a durable plastic film, with a tough rubber toe box to ensure the boot's longevity. This is all backed with a Gore-tex membrane that wraps around the gusseted tongue to ensure complete waterproofness.

My stand-out feature is the boot's ability to “lock” the laces at the third Gromit. This allows for adaptable lacing for different foot shapes and configurations for different terrains, especially when ascending or descending.

The boot's soles are very impressive. They look untouched from my test walks, with no wear or nicks, so I'm confident in their longevity. The sole is made in-house at Scarpa and performs well in wet and dry terrains.

Sizing can be tricky with Scarpa (or any European boot manufacturer); however, I usually take a 9, and the EU 43 fits me perfectly. If you want to invest in a solid traditional boot, you will get years of use out of these.

Rush GTX 2

Weight: Men's Rush GTX 2 - 379g (per UK8 shoe), Men's Rush Mid GTX 2 - 585g (per UK8 shoe) and Women's Rush Mid GTX 2 - 375g (per UK6 shoe)

The classic Rush GTX has been updated to make an even more dynamic and comfortable shoe to explore the trails in, characterized by a strong Scarpa identity and designed for those who approach the mountains at a faster pace and require support and greater protection. Comfort and cushioning are provided by IKS technology, which progressively and specifically supports the weight of the body during activity. The new anti-torsion system improves stability, while the GORE-TEX® membrane guarantees the Rush is a waterproof walking shoe/boot.

Features

- IKS (Interactive Kinetic System) technology reinvents the principles of comfort and cushioning.
- Lightweight and breathable for summer trekkings
- Hiking beyond the ordinary

Our Verdict

The original Rush Mid GTX’s combined walking boots with a flexible trail runner. This is still the case, but the boot is now more supportive, especially around the ankle. This means they have given up some flexibility but are still comfier and lighter than most “traditional” walking boots.

Most of the upper boot has been constructed for a durable eco-mesh, and the lower of the boot is protected by a durable plastic film, with a tough rubber toe box to ensure the boot's longevity. This is all backed with a Gore-tex membrane that wraps around the gusseted tongue to ensure complete waterproofness. The soul is made in-house at Scarpa, performs well in wet and dry terrains, and mitigates impact.

In terms of their use, they are good all-rounders that will handle most conditions and activities. If you are a multi-day walker who prefers a traditional boot over a lightweight shoe or trail runner, they are worth consideration.

Rush Trek Pro GTX

Weight: Men's Rush Trek Pro GTX - 561g (per UK8 shoe)

Rush Trek Pro GTX is the new reference point for short or daily excursions. A waterproof walking shoe made with a focus on comfort, with technologies that can help reduce foot fatigue. It represents the right mix of comfort, stability and low weight, enhanced by the use of Nubuck leather.

Features

- Upper: Nubuck Leather Upper with GORE-TEX® for protection, support and abrasion resistance. GORE-TEX® Extended Comfort lining guarantees waterproof-breathable protection

- 3D Auto-fit Ankle Collar: Stretch fabric and moulded foam, incorporated into the ankle collar provide a soft, comfortable fit with great support.
- DST Frame: Dynamic Stabilizer Torsion frame gives rear foot stability and torsion control
- Midsole: Dual-density compression moulded EVA for lightweight cushioning and responsiveness.
- Outsole: PRESA® outsole works with the midsole to provide mechanical impact absorption, and our SuperGum rubber compound provides confidence-inspiring traction.

Our Verdict
The Scarpa Rush Trek Pros are an update on the standard Rush Trek Model, with a move into a Nubuck upper, to offer a higher level of durability than the suede upper that came with the standard Rush Trek model. This has caused an increase in weight but only by 40g which for the extra level of durability is quite a small sacrifice.

The Trek Pro is definitly at the upper end of the lightweight catagory and is certainly not a summer boot, but it is ideal for those looking to transition from a traditional leather boot into something a bit lighter but keep a lot of the benefits, while saving some weight. The main features are the high level of ankle support that is offered for a mid-cut boot meaning that it will tackle steeper ground, while the rubber toe cap will also afford protection from scuffing and abrasion. The most interesitng feature is the level of cushioning under foot that the Rush Pro provides shock absorption across the foot, which makes them feel very comfortable across a range of terrains, despite the stiffness of the sole unit. The sole unit is on the stiffer side of a lightweight model, meaning it might not suit everyone however it has a softer sole compound so will still offer a high level of grip, but is still more durable than most lightweight boots.

In terms of fit I found them to have quite a wide toe box and quite a lot of space in the heel so they are definitely not for those with a narrow foot like me, but would be great for those who are requiring a bit more room in the toe box. One of the unique benefits of the Rush Trek Pro is that it can be re-soled by Scarpa in there factory in Italy, so you can increase the life  of the boots for many years of service.

Rush Trail GTX

Weight: Men's Rush Trail GTX - 506g (per UK8 shoe), Women's Rush Trail GTX - 430g (per UK6 shoe)

Rush Trail GTX walking shoe combines durability, comfort, structure and stability with the versatility and dynamism of the RUSH platform. This is the low cut version of RUSH TRK. It is a walking shoe made in the name of comfort with technologies able to help reduce foot fatigue during the hiking, a combination between agility and protection.

Features

- IKS tecnology (Interactive Kinetic System), a sole that reinvents the principles of comfort
- The charm of leather and the performance of the most modern technology
- New Gore-Tex Bluesign Approved

Our Verdict
The Rush Trail Low is Scarpa's most modern walking shoe that is designed to offer a very high level of comfort that you would expect from the Rush family, but also Scarpa's renowned technical performance.

The upper is a brushed suede upper that offers a not only a nice look to the shoe but also a decent level of water resistance. As with most of Scarpa's range there is also a Gore-Tex liner to makes sure that your feet are guaranteed to be waterproof even in the worst conditions.

The sole unit is a Presa Sole, which has been developed by Scarpa to offer a high level of grip on uneven and difficult terrain, while trying to prevent foot fatigue by having a very cushioned and comfortable midsole that is akin to that of a high performance running shoe.

Fit wise the toe box has a good volume to it so it is a middle of the road fit so should be suitable for a range of foot widths. The heel is a good close fit so offers a lot of support, so there is unlikely to be a lot of foot movement and would be good for those of us with a narrower heel shape.

While this is a move away from Scarpa's more traditional style of walking shoe, it seems to be a further step forwards into new levels of comfort and performance.

Rush Trek GTX

Weight: Men's Rush Trek GTX - 570g (per UK8 shoe)

Rush Trek GTX is the new benchmark for all day long and short mountain hike. It is a walking boot made in the name of comfort with technologies that reduce foot fatigue during the hike. It represents a culmination of soft comfort, solid stability and a lightweight feel.

Features

- IKS Technology (Interactive Kinetic System), a sole that reinvents the principles of comfort
3D Autofit ankle pad
- Rubber toe cap for maximum protection
- DST Chassis for stability and anti-torsion function
- Upper: the upper is in 1.7-1.9 mm suede leather with characteristics of waterproofing, breathability, scratch-resistant surface and durability. It integrates a good higher protection in the ankle area for better support, protection and comfort thanks to an Autofit 3D collar in padded fabric able to stabilize the entire foot without pressure points and wrap the ankle following its movement.
- Lining: GORE-TEX Extended Comfort membrane. Laminate is made by an highly abrasion resistant and quick drying textile lining material while the highly breathable membrane holds a remarkable ability to disperse heat. In this way, the feet are protected from water, while the sweat that is created inside the shoe can go quickly out.
- Sole: the new Presa® sole is made of SUPERGUM compound with an high grip and durability, pronounced heel and hiking-oriented caps, which promote braking on descents and grip on climbs. In addition, the IKS (Interactive Kinetic System) technology, characterized by 7 shock-absorbing areas (domes), progressively and specifically support the weight of our body during our activity in the mountains.

Our Verdict
Scarpa's Rush Trek GTX are a bit on the heavy side compared to our lightest footwear however they are a more substantial product than the lighter weight options. Firstly they are a true mid boot with excellent ankle padding and support, the uppers are mainly suede but they also have plastic protection on high wear areas along the sides of the heel area, the front too has a thick rubber toe cap which will protect against damaging scuffs and scratches.

The sole unit is stiffer than most too, and according to Scarpa is made from a new compound that offers both high grip and durability, two factors that are normally mutually exclusive. Not the boot we'd choose for summer hiking but a good option for late Autumn, early Spring or low level winter hikes. Can't wait to get a pair tested.
