Suunto Wing Headphones Review - ''Having used these on numerous runs on both trail and tarmac the ability to hear what is going on around you is a great feature''

The Suunto Wing Bluetooth Headphones are a perfect way to listen to music or podcasts whilst out on a run or outdoor activity. Their bone conductive technology means they do not go in the ear, but rather conduct through the bone just at the front of the ear. This means you can still hear ambient sounds, such as cars or people, while still enjoying your music. This is a much safer option, especially when running along roads and near traffic.

They fit nicely around the back of your head and although they feel a bit strange at first, you quickly become used to it. The band is rigid enough to grip yet flexible to fit around any head size and this meant I didn’t notice any movement when running which was a slight concern at first. I found that because they’re a single unit you don’t have the danger of losing an earbud which is more of a problem with standard wireless in-ear headphones.

Having used these on numerous runs on both trail and tarmac the ability to hear what is going on around you is a great feature. On the downside, if the volume is cranked right up you can sometimes feel slight vibrations on the side of your head however this wasn’t too much of an issue at normal levels. Also, if you are using them for more casual use where there are more ambient sounds such as travelling in a car or bus, they’re not as effective as in-ear headphones. But for the main purpose they’re designed for, sports and outdoor activities, they’re a fantastic option. With a waterproof rating of IP67 they cope with heavy rain and sweat without an issue and can sit nicely under a beanie or hat.

The Wing comes with a couple of extra features, one being red lights on the side of the band. These can be turned on and off using the app and again is a great safety feature. They can even be set to flash SOS in Morse code if necessary. The other feature that makes these headphones stand out is the extra powerbank that it comes with. This will extend an already impressive 8-10 hour playback time by another 20 hours. The Headphones magnetically connect and fit nicely around the powerbank when charging and held in place with a clip. The whole lot then fits into the small storage bag. This is great if you are planning to take them on a multi-day trip where access to power is at a minimum.

The volume can be controlled with two buttons on the bottom of the unit and it has a built-in microphone so you can take calls whilst out on a run. Overall, these are a great product and perfectly suited to any outdoor adventure that needs a soundtrack to accompany it.
