Having completed this year's TGO challenge, one of my constant companions along the way was Pure Clears Collapsible Squeeze Water Filter Bottle. After 14 days use, here are my thoughts;

Before using the water filter bottle, one of the biggest draws was the price, at £27.95 it is a much more attractive proposition compared to some of Pure Clears main rivals, which have RRP’s upwards of £50. Lightweight, extremely packable and boasting an impressive capability to filter 99.9999% of bacteria and viruses, it's a ‘no-brainer’ purchase for anyone heading into the great outdoors for a day hike or a multi-day trek, best not to get caught out when the water source is questionable.

At first, it took me a little while to get used to the flow rate and how best to optimise this. After a day's use, the flow rate improved as the filter filaments became saturated and I became accustomed to the best drinking technique. On that note; one, ensure you fully release the valve by pulling the nozzle up from the lid with your teeth; two, rather than keeping constant pressure by squeezing the bottle, I found that pumping the bottle by rhythmically squeezing and releasing pressure worked most efficiently.

Throughout the 14 day trek across the Highlands, the filter saw constant use, easily being stored away due to the compressible soft bottle and found the bottle held its shape well between being filled and approximately 25% fill. Using a rucksack with an ease of access pouch for water bottles, it is worth noting that once the bottle was down to 25% capacity or less, I had to ensure it was well secured as it had a tendency to fall out whilst walking. This happened to help showcase how well abrasive resistant the Collapsible Bottle is, at no point did I worry about damage, puncture tear or rips.

All in all, an impressive bit of kit. Relatively inexpensive, and easy to use, although a little slow on the flow rate, the filter with a capacity of 500ml soft bottle, kept me hydrated with clean water during warmer days, high mileage days with greater distance between water sources and everything in between. Pure Clears  Collapsible Squeeze Water Filter Bottle will for sure continue to join me on future trips.
