Chamonix to Zermatt — 12thto 22nd July 2025 — Trip Total Cost
Posted by Mark Richardson on Sep 01, 2025
Cost
The cost of the trip depends very much on whether you camp every night or use accommodation, and how much you use campsites and restaurants for meals.
The cost of cable cars is also significant, though of course you don’t have to use any of these, though I think the one from Le Chable to Les Ruinettes is well worth it. As it saves a full day, you can offset the cost of the cable car against food and accommodation for the extra day.
Minimum cost
- Flights: £334.94
- Airport Parking: £138.56
- Chamonix transfer: £20.83
- Typical Camping per night x 6: £120.00
- Train Fare on return: £71.18
Food
Supermarkets were more expensive than the UK, but it's difficult to put a finger on it as there were big variations.
A meal in a restaurant could easily be £50.
Cable Car
The cable car between Le Chable and Les Ruinettes was £20.53
Minimum cost therefore (excluding meals and food) £706.04

Although semi-retired Mark has not lost any enthusiasm for minimalist backpacking and is tackling Scotland’s Munros choosing multi-day backpacking routes over the more usual guide book excursions. |
