Lightweight, hands-free water filtration for around camp.

The BeFree Gravity 3.0L weighs just 192 grams and uses gravity to purify up to 2 litres of clean drinking water per minute. The handling of the water filter is particularly easy: all you need to do is fill the flexible BPA and PVC free Hydrapak hydration pack with water. The water passes through a 0.1 micron hollow fibre filter which reliably removes bacteria, cysts and sediment with its pore size of 0.1 micron (0.0001 mm).
The capacity of the filter is up to 1000L, depending on the water quality.
The integrated bail handle on the nozzle simplifies filling. The practical carry strap makes fetching water from a river easier and the filter can be hung on a nearby tree once full.
Easily clean the EZ-Clean Membrane by simply shaking or swishing the filter in the water. No back flushing or tools necessary.
Our Verdict
The Katadyn BeFree is now my filter of choice for hiking solo, but it could be better at processing water; this allows me to prosses a larger quantity of water at camp for rehydrated food and cups of tea.
I love my BeFree when I'm solo hiking because the flow rate is much better than other brands on the market, and the 3l gravity filter is just as impressive, filtering up to 2 litres a minute.
It's very straightforward: fill the 3l dirty water bag, hand it up with the straps provided, and open the filter.
