Our Verdict
The Hestra Alpine Short Gore-Tex Mitts deliver reliable protection and comfort for cold, snowy or wet conditions. The goatskin palm provides excellent grip and durability, while the soft-shell backhand keeps the mitt flexible and comfortable during active movement. The Gore-Tex insert ensures solid waterproofing and breathability, maintaining warmth and keeping you dry.
At 145g (Medium), they feel balanced on the hand, offering good warmth from the fibrefill insulation and brushed polyester lining without being overly bulky. The short neoprene cuff fits neatly under a jacket sleeve and seals well around the wrist, although a longer cuff would provide more protection. The mitt design prioritises warmth over dexterity, which is ideal for cold hikes.
Build quality is excellent, with durable stitching and a premium feel throughout. The leather benefits from occasional treatment to preserve waterproofing and flexibility, and with that care, will last for many seasons.
