The Alpaca duffel was designed with a water-resistant TPU coating and recycled polyester ripstop for hardcore durability. Each duffel has a large, expandable zippered end pocket for separating dirty shoes and gear, and are packaged in
convenient, reusable packing cubes. The design features an abrasion-resistant bottom from the added layer of foam, removable shoulder straps with an easy-to- use buckle attachment, an interior zippered mesh pocket, oversized T-Grip zipper pullers, and a padded handle wrap with a fiberglass reinforcement rod.
Our Verdict
At around 1.5 kg, it’s not the lightest option, but the construction is excellent. The 900-denier recycled polyester with TPU coating resists abrasion and wet ground, and the padded base provides protection where it matters. The removable shoulder straps make it surprisingly comfortable to carry backpack-style, while the reinforced haul handles provide a secure feel even when fully loaded. The large U-shaped zip allows quick access, and the expandable end pocket is ideal for separating wet or muddy kit.
It’s weather-resistant rather than fully waterproof, and internal organisation is minimal, but for simplicity and toughness, it performs impressively. After years of refinement, the Alpaca remains one of the best-built duffels available for travellers and mountain users who value durability over weight savings.
