Our Verdict
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear 30L Approach Duffel is a tough, no-nonsense bag that slots neatly between a daypack and a full-sized holdall. Made from Dyneema with taped seams, it shrugs off rough treatment and wet conditions—easily the most hardwearing duffel I’ve used. I’ve been using it for overflow kit—wet shells, climbing gear, spare layer, the cylindrical shape packs better than expected, and its clean, uncluttered design makes it easy to chuck in a car boot or haul onto a train.
The padded strap is removable and works well for short carries, and the internal and external pockets keep smaller bits accessible, though storage is deliberately minimal. This fits the bill if you’re after a streamlined, weatherproof grab-bag for messy, wet, or awkward kit, especially in unpredictable conditions.
